Thirdsite gets Googled

Finally - we had our first Google referral yesterday. Google referred someone who searched for "Globat complaints". Surprise - not an uncommon search term.

This makes me very pleased. Google is to the WWW as Microsoft is to Operating Systems. You're either on-board or you are adrift at sea.

We had the assistance of our sister sites, Plagiarized.com and PureHope.com who both had links to our site.

Links from existing indexed sites help with getting "spidered" by Google. This is why, if you are starting from scratch and you have no "sister sites"... it may be worth the money to pay a service to get you listed on Google. They basically link spam to a bunch of sites they control. these sites are indexed by Google, so your new site gets indexed more quickly.

Browsers - the people - are a fickle lot

I use Firefox as my default browser. Based on news reports and my own web stats for this site (http://www.thirdsite.com/), my sidekick's site (http://www.purehope.com/) and our "other" site (http://www.plagiarized.com/), about 30% of visitors now use Firefox...

Here's the problem. Most people hate Microsoft because it is fashionable to hate Microsoft. When asked to articulate their issues with Microsoft... They can't. They are like an anti-globalisation protester. No idea whatsoever. "It's the corporations - Man...."

Most of the cool stuff on the WWW depends on wizzy plugins and addons to Internet Explorer. Firefox is a "slim client". Low on plugins and addons. When the masses come to understand that they will need to install extra stuff to get their retarded online games to work - they'll scurry back to IE.

If you know what you're doing... or if you don't know what you're doing and really couldn't care less about fancy features of the world wide web... Then Firefox is for you. Otherwise - don't complicate your life. Stick to Internet Explorer and your collection of downloaded smileys.
